TPU分子量对其力学性能有明显影响，随着TPU分子量的增加，拉伸强度、模量及耐磨性等都增加，当分子量达到一定程度时这些性能趋于平稳。TPU撕裂强度和耐曲挠性能随着分子量的增大而降低，一方面TPU物理交联使其自由体积减小；另一方面，TPU分子链的高度缠结和物理交联的增加降低了他们的内部流动性，受到外力作用时，分子链重排不易实现而无法有效减轻施加的应力。低分子量组分的比例大时，对弹性体的耐热性能和力学性能极为有害，而过高分子量组分的比例太大时会对加工成型带来不便。因此对于不同用途的TPU应根据其具体加工要求来调节合适的分子量及分子量分布。
